Skotfoss
The station exploits water from the eastern part of Telemark County, the Hjartdal watercourse, Lake Sundsbarm and the Tokke-Vinje watercourse. Akershus Energi is the owner of the station, which is located in the lower part of the Skien Watercourse. It has a catchment area of 10300 km2.
Several regulation authorities
The owner association Øst-Telemarken brukseierforening, established on 3 August 1903, covers the eastern part of the watercourse. Skiens Brugseierforening is responsible regulatory authority for Lake Hjellevannet. The Hjartdøla river and Lake Sundsbarm are regulated by Skagerak Kraft A/S, while the Tokke-Vinje part is regulated in a governmental regulation from the 1950s and 1960s, managed by Statskraft SF.
The dam
At Skotfoss power station, the water is regulated by means of three spill gates.
Typical run-of-river power station
The plant is a typical run-of-river power station with a reservoir of 4208 million m3.Mean annual inflow is about 1434 million m3.
The power station has two vertical Kaplan-turbines which produce 23MW at maximum effect. The turbines exploit a gross head of 10 m. The absorption capacity of the station is 280m3/sec, which renders an average annual production of 169 GWh.
