Akershus Energi

Skotfoss

The power station was put in operation in 1953.
The station exploits water from the eastern part of Telemark County, the Hjartdal watercourse, Lake Sundsbarm and the Tokke-Vinje watercourse. Akershus Energi is the owner of the station, which is located in the lower part of the Skien Watercourse. It has a catchment area of 10300 km2.
Several regulation authorities
The owner association Øst-Telemarken brukseierforening, established on 3 August 1903, covers the eastern part of the watercourse. Skiens Brugseierforening is responsible regulatory authority for Lake Hjellevannet. The Hjartdøla river and Lake Sundsbarm are regulated by Skagerak Kraft A/S, while the Tokke-Vinje part is regulated in a governmental regulation from the 1950s and 1960s, managed by Statskraft SF.
The dam
At Skotfoss power station, the water is regulated by means of three spill gates.
Typical run-of-river power station
The plant is a typical run-of-river power station with a reservoir of 4208 million m3.Mean annual inflow is about 1434 million m3.
The power station has two vertical Kaplan-turbines which produce 23MW at maximum effect. The turbines exploit a gross head of 10 m. The absorption capacity of the station is 280m3/sec, which renders an average annual production of 169 GWh.
