Harpefossen
The power station is located in a typical farming area with a great many beautiful and traditional farms. A great number of tourists pass by the power station, especially during summer.
Harpefossen power station is beautifully located on Gudbrandsdalslågen river, adjacent to highway E6, approximately one km north of the centre of Harpefoss in Sør-Fron Municipality. From the highway E6, the outdoor construction, the intake reservoir and the top of the dam can be seen.
The dam
At the top of the Solbråfossen waterfall, a 125 m long concrete dam with a highest head of 16m has been constructed. The dam is equipped with 3 gates; two of the gates are sector gates. The third one is a so called “vaggluke”, which is a combined spill gate and floating gate.
The power station
The water is led from the intake dam through two penstocks with 7 m diameters into two separate turbines. The power station itself is located in a blasted mountain cavern east of the Gudbrandsdalslågen river.
From the turbines, the water runs through a 1300 m long tailrace tunnel into the river at the end of Harpefossjuvet (the Harpefoss canyon).
